A school musical or play is not for the faint of heart. Between auditioning, late-night rehearsals, and back-to-back performances, your child has dedicated endless hours of their time on top of homework, family commitments, and having a social life.
Not only is the idea of being up on that stage and in front of that many people scary for most adults, but the number of lines, songs, and cues that need to be memorized can be utterly overwhelming. You want to reward all that hard work, but with what?
Flowers
Every actor loves a fabulous bouquet of flowers on opening night. The options for flower delivery are almost endless. Red, long-stemmed roses are a classic, but you could branch out. A performance of "Frozen Jr.," for example, lends itself to blue, white, and aqua carnations with glittery ting ting. Choose exotic, tropical stems, like bird-of-paradise or ginger, for a production of "Moana" or "Lion King." Talk to your florist about getting creative in your selection.
Charm
You could start a charm bracelet for your child. Add a new charm for each play or musical that they perform in. A quick internet search will pull up resources for almost every play in existence, both mass-produced and artist-created one-offs. You could augment the bracelet with charms of musicals that you see together as well.
Cast Figure
If your budding thespian is performing in a well-known production, you can gift them a miniature statue or other collectible to remember the event by. A donkey figurine or statuette from "Shrek" would be a fun gift for anyone in the cast. A bust of Shakespeare will amuse your future Romeo or Juliet. It can become a tradition after each performance and grow into an impressive collection full of memories for your child.
Food
Who doesn't love food? Anything goes with kids, but chocolate is a fan favorite. Think about pairing your gift with the play or musical. Custom-colored M&Ms in red, white, and yellow for a performance of "Annie" or custom "Aladdin" cookies will be oohed and aahed over and then promptly eaten! You can even order a custom basket of fruit for non-chocolate lovers.
Wish that they "break a leg" before the show and reward their hard work afterward with a special flowery delivery or other gift that shows how proud you are of their bravery, talent, and dedication working so hard on the stage production.
